COVID-19 School Updates

Jump rope for heart update

“Due to COVID-19, our due date has been extended for the Kids Heart Challenge (Jump Rope for Heart). All donations are going to be due on Friday, April 3rd.

There are a couple options for turning in your donations. The safest option would be using the American Heart Association website/app. There is a feature to take a picture of a check and “scan” it in. All cash donations could be kept and the website/app could be used to add an online donation of the amount of cash received. Information on how to do this is on your donation form that went home with the students. The second option is to drop off the donations that you received into Fort Lincoln’s mailbox. There is risk involved with dropping of cash/checks through the schools mailbox. Mr. West will do his best to ensure your donations get to the American Heart Association.

As for the rewards that students earn when they reach a certain donation level, Mr. West will make sure all student receive their rewards. The logistics of how this will occur are a work in progress.

Thank you for all of your hard work and patience!”

MPS Families,

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding as we navigate this situation. We assure you that we are working hard to continue to carry out our mission while monitoring the spread of COVID-19.

We are in regular contact with local and state health officials, as well as the ND Department of Public Instruction, the Governor’s Office, other local school districts. We also continue to take direction from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Governor Burgum, by executive order, has suspended school in ND for grades K-12 indefinitely. The executive order further stipulated that schools would continue to receive state aid through Tuesday, March 31st. For schools to continue to receive state aid beginning April 1st, schools will need to have a distance learning plan that is approved by both the ND Dept. of Public Instruction and the Governor’s Office.  The Mandan School District has submitted its distance learning plan to DPI, and we are waiting on approval.

Contacting MPS: Essential staff are still working at the District Office. Please feel free to call 751-6500 with any questions or concerns that you may have. Teachers, Principals, and other professionals can be contacted via email. Email addresses can be found at www.Mandan.K12.nd.us

Academics: Teachers and other educational staff are currently modifying their classroom plans to allow for distance learning. They have begun to reach out to students and hope to begin online instruction on Wednesday or Thursday this week after students have picked up their iPads.

Internet Access: Each student at MPS has an iPad that can be used for distance learning. We understand that having a device without having internet has limited functionality. We have made internet available in all of our school parking lots. All school-issued devices will connect automatically to these networks from outside the buildings.  The strongest network access is behind Mandan High School.

Also, both Midcontinent Communications (800-888-1300) and BEK Communications (701-474-1230) have programs available to assist families with a financial need get connected to the internet. In addition, many mobile communications companies are offering to remove data limits on their plans. Please contact your provider for specific details

Child Nutrition: MPS is adding a 4th food distribution site beginning today. We understand that our previous Lakewood location was challenging to find so we have selected a more prominent location. Locations and times are as follows:

Mary Stark Elementary 405 8th Ave SE Mandan, ND – 11:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m.

Custer Elementary - 205 8th Ave. NE -11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m

Twin City Estates - 3001 Twin City Drive Mandan, ND – 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m

New Discovery Montessori 4103 Shoal Loop SE, Mandan ND - 1:15 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.

Thank you so much for being patient with us as we navigate these unchartered waters. Please continue to take the recommendations from the ND Department of Health.
